Governor General Jules Léger presents the 1974 Michener Award to reporter Donna Gabeline, representing the Montreal Gazette. The presentation was made at a Rideau Hall ceremony, June 6th, 1975.
The Gazette’s winning entry was entitled “Montreal at the Crossroads”, a 13-part series described by the award jury as being “a thorough, detailed account of the problems relating to downtown development…visionary as well as realistic, it embraced all aspects of society and of activities”
Each year, the governor general honours the laureates at a ceremony at Rideau Hall. Roland Michener’s successors have graciously adopted and maintained a personal interest in the Michener Awards Foundation and its commitment to Canadian journalistic excellence.
