The Globe and Mail and La Presse won the 2007 Michener Award for their reporting on the treatment of Afghan detainees. The judging panel decided to honour both newspapers for separate entries covering different phases of the Afghan detainee issue.
The Michener Award is presented annually to news organizations whose work has a major effect on public policy or the lives of Canadians. The award is given to a news organization, rather than an individual. Print and broadcast and published online media of any size are eligible. Special consideration is given to the news resources available to the entry.
