Chris Cobb accepts the 2007 Michener-Deacon Fellowship from Her Excellency Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. The photo was taken at the Michener Award ceremony held at Rideau Hall, June 8, 2007.
Mr. Cobb plans to write on the clearance of the estimated 100 million landmines in more than 70 countries around the world and to explore the diplomatic process that led to The International Landmines Treaty, signed by 122 countries in December 1997. He will also visit some of the countries ravaged by landmines, including Cambodia and Uganda, to speak to victims.
The Michener-Deacon fellowship is awarded annually to a deserving recipient and helps to advance education in the field of journalism and serves the public interest through the promotion of values that benefit the community.
